Vassily Kandinsky

From 15 September, Palazzo Bonaparte opens its doors to the extraordinary world of Vassily Kandinsky, one of the greatest protagonists of twentieth-century art and one of the artists who most profoundly transformed the way we look at painting. The exhibition brings together more than seventy works, many from the Centre Pompidou in Paris, tracing the journey of an artist who turned colour and form into a language of emotion.

Entering the exhibition means following Kandinsky through the different chapters of his life and artistic research: from his early figurative works to the vibrant years in Munich, from the experience of Der Blaue Reiter to revolutionary Russia, the Bauhaus, and finally Paris.

Yet what makes Kandinsky so fascinating is not only the story behind his paintings. It is the sensation they create:

A colour can become a sound.
A line can suggest movement.
A circle can feel almost like a breath.

In Kandinsky’s world, painting no longer needs to represent something familiar in order to speak to us. It can simply evoke, awaken, and move. His art invites the eye to wander freely, discovering relationships between colours, shapes, contrasts, and spaces.

Perhaps this is the beauty of Kandinsky: the freedom to look without searching for an explanation. To let a painting reach us before we try to understand it.

And perhaps this is also one of the pleasures of Rome: even in a city so deeply rooted in the past, there is always space for a new way of seeing.

History and modernity meet once again, inviting us to pause, look more closely, and allow ourselves to be surprised by colour.

At Parisii, we believe that the most beautiful experiences begin when we allow ourselves to see things differently.
